Reflection of God’s Goodness: Segun Badejo Celebrates 55th Birthday, 30 Years in Ministry

By Oluwafemi Dosu

In reflection of God’s Goodness over the years, drama missionary and film maker, Evangelist Segun Badejo has celebrated his 55th birthday and 30 years in full time drama ministry.

Gospel Film News can authoritatively tell you that he’s also celebrating 20 years of his personal drama ministry, Gideons Mission.

The celebration which was held recently in Ibadan was graced by popular Ibadan based preacher, Samson Ajetomobi, Kayode Owojori and wife and some other dignitaries.

In his remarks, Badejo noted that: “I’m a very emotional being, not as stern as people think. I only appear stern to cover up how emotional I truly am. I’m very happy to have you all here today to celebrate with me, my family, and the ministry. I extend my thanks to all the dignitaries present. When I look back, I often find myself crying as I remember how I started.”

He recalled that while growing up, his family had nothing to the extent that his own father would send bag of garri to him to feed his nuclear family.

“Back then, there was nothing; my dad would send a bag of garri to sustain us. There was even a time we had to eat garri with garri. But one day, we decided we wouldn’t take it alone anymore and prayed for something more. During our prayer, an eagle came and dropped a bushrat, and then flew away. We were able to eat the garri with meat that day, and God said, “I’m able to take care of you, but this is needed for your future ministry (Drama Ministry).” www.gospelfilmnews.com

Badejo stressed that no lady today would be willing to marry a poor man like him then, adding that the only thing he had was a radio.

“No sisters these days would marry someone like I was back then. I only had a radio and was living in a two-bedroom flat paid for by someone else. Even after having three children, we still relied on others to give us something before we could eat. During this time, we entered into Drama Mission, traveling from country to country, and it was very effective in winning souls.

“There was a time I had a heart problem and had to go from one hospital to another. You could visibly see my heart beating. I was given a drug, Isordil, and while it relieved my heart issues, it came with the terrible side effect of a killing headache, so horrible. But one day, I told God, “You can’t bring me into this ministry and let me live with this. If you can’t heal me, let me die.” So, I packed the drug and poured it away, and that was the last day I had the heart issue. Even till today, it’s nowhere to be found.

“I remember the time we were on a mountain in Cameroon in the dead of night, and mist covered everything. If we had mistakenly swayed off the road, we would have been lost as there were deep pits with no railings. Or the time we spent 7 hours on a bike from Liberia to Sierra Leone doing drama missions, but God was faithful; it was rewarding. We have witnessed over 700 people give their lives to Jesus on the mission field. We’ve seen 166 elderly people accept Christ in Ogbomosho some time ago. There are several testimonies of what God has done, and we thank God we are still here.

While appreciating the presence of dignitaries, he said there was a reason the baale of Olode was at the event.

“There is a story behind the Baale of Olode being here. Three years ago, we were at Olode for scouting, but God did not give us the go-ahead. The pastor in Olode at the time, who is here today, was the CAN chairman of the surrounding villages and wasn’t so pleased. He wished we had come then, but this January, God said it was time, so we went, not knowing that God had something for us. Now, He has given us 32 plots of land in Olode, where there will be an intercession center, a mission center, an entrepreneurship center, a film village, and a resort center. It’s not by power or might but by God’s grace,” he reiterated.
